In 2020 Jenny was diagnosed with breast cancer. This came as a shock especially as the treatment commenced during the Covid lockdown period in early March. As a result, she found herself totally isolated and recovering at home for months. This was the time that she found both stillness and arts medicine. She immersed herself in drawing and painting everyday. She made use of this time at home to expand and develop her creative side.
Jenny connected with a couple of online tutors, her favorite at the time being Melanie Rivers, (an Indigenous mixed media artist from the Squamish First Nation Canada). Melanie taught her many powerful messages mostly around healing, kindness and about silencing her inner critic. Jenny has also attended 3 McGregor schools which have really helped her to develop as an artist and has also attended workshops with Bruce Griffiths who gave her some great foundations in the art of watercolour.
Jenny’s favorite medium is watercolour. Her style reflects a certain looseness and accidental quality. She loves to go outside the lines and keeps her paintings loose, free and fun. She also enjoys acrylic painting and floral arranging. She grows and dries all her flowers.
Jenny has a strong connection to the land and earth and this is reflected in her paintings. She loves to paint landscapes, animals and florals. She also loves to delve into the spiritual side of her subjects. She hopes her paintings bring as much joy to the viewers as they do to her, the creator.
