Sarina van der Watt

Sarina’s instinctive flair for oil painting, especially her still life artworks with their depth and dramatic contrast show a strong influence from the old masters like Vermeer and Rembrandtwhile her landscapes and seascapes are soft and impressionistic like those of her favourite artist, Edward Seago.

Sarina enjoys finding inspiration in nature and life around her seeing art possibilities around every corner. She always carries a sketchbook on her outdoor adventures, never missing an opportunity to paint or sketch. As she continues her artistic journey, Sarina hopes to inspire others to embrace creativity at any age, reminding them that passion can be discovered at the most unexpected moments.

Artist Statement

Sarina van der Watt discovered her love of painting at the age of 60 during the 2020 COVID Lockdown. She was painting with her grandchildren at the time, following a few tips on Facebook and loved the sensation of painting on canvas and effects achievable.

After trialling a free online workshop from the Learn-to-paint Academy, Sarina was so impressed she joined the Academy and has never looked back.
